18-24″ bare root seedlings, 1 year old (1-0)
Although native to northern Europe and Asia, this tree does well in our area (Zone 3-6). (It is prone to insect or disease in warmer climates.)
European Mountain Ash is perfect for small yards or planted under power lines. It won’t grow more than 40’ and it will spread 15-25’ in width.
European Mountain Ash does best in acidic, moist, well-drained soils
White flowers appear in late spring or early summer on the European Mountain Ash. Large clusters of small red berries (pomes) appear in the early fall after the spring flowers. (It is recommended that the berries be cooked before human consumption to avoid stomach upset.) The fruit attracts butterflies and birds. Then the leaves turn a beautiful maroon-red in the early to mid-fall.
Prefers full sun (at least 6 hours of direct sunlight)
