Storm Water, Carbon Awareness, Reforestation Education for Students (SW CARES)
On April 6, 2022 the District visited Mannsville’s elementary school and the students had a great day. Sarah Trick, one of our new Environmental Resource Specialists put together an interactive presentation. The 4th grade students reviewed science terminology and learned new information about storm water, carbon cycle, and the importance of trees. The students took a walk on school grounds to learn about drainage and discover the school’s outfalls. They also learned how to plant a tree. One student remarked it was “the best day ever!” Each student was sent home with 2 Colorado Blue Spruce seedlings and some information about planting riparian forest buffers.
Special thanks to Mr. Pelton, Mannsville Manor’s principal, for the gracious hospitality and to Julie Crast, retired Mannsville Manor elementary teacher. Julie is an amazing teacher and the students were captured by contagious enthusiasm.
We look forward to bringing this pilot project to more students in 2023!
