AKA American Filbert
This multi-stemmed shrub adapts easily to naturalizing. Produces sweet tasting nuts each fall 2-3 years after planting. Plant 2-3 in an area to ensure cross pollination. The nuts are enjoyed by wildlife (squirrels, woodpeckers, pheasants, ruffed grouse, jays, quail, turkey, foxes and deer). Deer and rabbits also enjoy the leaves, twigs, and catkins.
Growth: Medium to fast
Needs 4 hours or more of direct sunlight each day and it is tolerant of drought conditions.
