(AKA Yellow Poplar, Tulip Magnolia, Tulip Tree, or Whitewood) Technically, it is NOT a poplar, it is a member of the magnolia family. Tennessee, Kentucky, and Indiana designated the Tulip Poplar as their official state tree.
Beautiful tulip-shaped greenish-yellow flowers blossom April – June.
Grows best in moist, well-drained, loose textured soils. Does not do well in wet areas.
Historically used for fence posts and canoe constructions.
